UM!, the project of Brussels-based producer Umi Defoort, blends classical training, jazz sensibility and hip-hop roots into a fluid, genre-crossing sound. With Japanese heritage and a broad musical foundation, his work moves freely between organic instrumentation and electronic textures. UM! is widely known as a live musician for Zwangere Guy and as a producer for Chibi Ichigo, while his 2020 solo debut featured collaborations with key voices from the Belgian scene. Since then, he has toured across Belgium, the Netherlands and Japan, building a reputation for energetic, tightly crafted live performances. His upcoming second album, set for release released in March 2026, shifts further into electronic and dance-oriented territory. Designed to hit harder on stage, the new material promises a more explosive live show with his own band at the centre, with saxophonist Jeroen Van Herzeele adding a jazz-layered depth to the live experience.
