XDB is the alias of Kosta Athanassiadis, a German-born DJ and producer of Greek heritage whose career spans more than three decades in underground electronic music. Raised in Göttingen, he began DJing in the early 1990s while working in a record shop and hosting a local radio show—experiences that helped shape his deep musical knowledge and enduring passion for vinyl. In 2006 he founded the label Metrolux, introducing his productions to a wider audience. Early releases like the Jackintosh EP and Descap EP revealed a distinctive sound that blended dub techno atmospheres with subtle house and techno influences, while resisting easy genre classification. As a DJ, XDB is celebrated for his thoughtful selection and patient storytelling. Drawing from a vast record collection and often mixing across three decks, his sets explore the deeper side of electronic music. A regular at festivals such as Freerotation, Waking Life and Houghton, he remains a respected figure whose approach prioritises musical depth over spectacle.
